Vero Glezqui (Verónica González Quirós, 1984), is a Visual Artist from Tijuana, Mexico currently based there. She works across disciplines such as drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, and installation using regular and irregularly shaped canvases depending on the nature of the work.

In her practice she explores nature from an ecological perspective, she uses figurative imagery of nature, from landscapes to textures, with abstract forms, found imagery, and geologic patterns that represent natural resources, as well as my own set of marks that represent synthetic materials like plastic and textile, juxtaposed in single images in a collage manner.

She is interested in environmental science and philosophy that deconstructs nature, shows us its beauty, highlights the importance of the interconnectedness among the ecosystems on a micro and macro level, and at the same time creates awareness of our environmental crisis.

(Eco)Systems series consists of 50 one-colored silkscreen prints of a mountain with a map of patterns that represent rocks, shale, ore, and plastic where each silkscreen is intervened differently with abstract forms made with acrylic on synthetic paper as an added layer, making each a unique piece.

Here, she uses image repetition as a way of a prefix. A background that is constantly intervened, modified, and altered just like our ecosystems. The symbols depict three resources that are constantly being mined for industrial purposes along with the marking of plastic, a material that represents our present consumerism culture and has such long permanency it is already a layer on the earth’s crust and an island in the ocean.
